Feature Artists: Justice and Charles Hamilton

Parisian duo "Justice" caught the eye of our team after opening the Dior show. Their style is unique and fresh. r-Lie gives them two thumbs up. Check them out here

We absolutely love Charles Hamilton's ability to infuse old and new. Check out his new mixtape collaboration with Dj Green Lantern on Imeem here.

Modern Marvels

Globe of Science and Innovation: This big ball of wood houses the visitors’ education center for the European Organization for Nuclear Research. Located outside of Geneva, Switzerland, the landmark structure of the organization is about the same size as the dome of St. Peter’s Cathedral in Rome. 300 feet below the surface lies the 17-mile tunnel complex that will become the world’s largest and most powerful particle accelerator — the Large Hadron Collider — which will hum to life later in 2008.
Channel Tunnel: The Chunnel, as the 31.35-mile tunnel under the English Channel is known, opened in 1994, connecting Calais, France, with Folkestone, England. It is the second-longest tunnel in the world (behind Japan’s Seikan railway tunnel), and has the longest underwater section of any tunnel. The Eurotunnel Shuttle (pictured) is a special vehicle transport train that has the largest rail cars in the world.

Tony Ariawan’s Vector Girls

This new collection by illustrator Tony Ariawan absolutely blows my mind. He uses his own photography combined with Photoshop vectors to produce what can only be described as a psychedelic experience. You can see the entire collection here.

Inside The Bape Stores

Jaeger LeCoultre's Atmos 561 Clock by Marc Newson

Suspended in a bubble block of Baccarat crystal and powered by temperature change, Jaeger LeCoultre's Atmos 561 mechanical clock is the work of Australian super-designer Marc Newson (known for designing the Ikepod watch and a million other sleek objects). Using small temperature changes in the encapsulated environment for power, Atmos clocks can run for years without human intervention. Their power source is a hermetically sealed capsule containing a mixture of gas and liquid ethyl chloride, which expands into a chamber as the temperature rises, compressing a spiral spring; with a fall in temperature the gas condenses and the spring slackens. This motion constantly winds the mainspring. A variation in temperature of only one degree in the range between 15 and 30 degrees Celsius is sufficient for two days of operation.

BMW GINA concept

Some high-performance cars are aluminum, some are carbon fiber. This one's covered in a flexible fabric that allows it to shift shape. Unfortunately, it'll likely never hit the streets—BMW only made one, and it's in the company's Munich museum—so you'll never have the chance to, say, give its curves any lamppost-shaped indents. The video of this visionary project can be seen here.

Tsovet Watches

Using classic, simple lines inspired by genius architect Frank Lloyd Wright and a price range that doesn’t go over $450, these watches will help you step up without hurting your pockets. Started by Vestal founder David Bonaventura, the line has maritime roots with some models that mimic a compass. The first batch of drops are slated to hit Cali-based retail space Harlow Boutique, where they’re described as “time instruments.” Yeah, they’re that serious. Check some models from their lookbook below.

"Beats"

At $400 a pop you know that they have been blessed by Dr. Dre. If Dr. Dre loves them, they must be cool. The mute button is neat, but I wouldn’t throw away your high-end AKG, Sennheiser, or Grado headphones just yet. Find out more at Monsters Website

Alberto Seveso

I Couldn't resist posting this. Alberto Seveso is a contemporary Italian graphic illustrator and artist. I have to admit that it has been a while since I've seen something truly original being done with digital art but his work is absolutely brilliant. You can see more of it HERE

LILYPAD

LILYPAD is touted by Callebaut as a prototypical auto-sufficient amphibious city...

LILYPAD is a true amphibian - half aquatic and half terrestrial city - able to accommodate 50,000 inhabitants and inviting the biodiversity to develop its fauna and flora around a central lagoon of soft water collecting and purifying the rain waters. This artificial lagoon is entirely immersed, ballasting the city. It enables inhabitants to live in the heart of the sub aquatic depths. The multi functional program is based on three marinas and three mountains dedicated to work, shopping and entertainment. The whole set is covered by a stratum of planted housing in suspended gardens and crossed by a network of streets and alleyways with organic outline. The goal is to create a harmonious coexistence of humans and nature, exploring new modes of cross-cultural aquatic living.
